MTC&SG

I'm pleased to announce that the audio from Me, The Captain & Some Guy's February 12th show is now posted at http://infinitegravity.net/mtcsg.html I will be adding an additional logo and some extra photos of the band within the next few days.

Don't forget that Me, The Captain & Some Guy will be performing on Friday, March 25th, at Erricos and then again on Saturday, May 14th, at the Riverside Barr and Grill. Get out to the shows if ya can - it's a lot of fun.

These dudes rock thoroughly and just happen to be very cool people too. Check 'em out and give 'em love.

I have yet to finish editing the tracks for Shapeless from the same night. This will also happen soon.

Finally, one of these days I'll get around to writing, recording and posting some new material from yours truly. I've been doing stuff here and there, but I've got so little time to do everything. Eventually, I'm looking to play out again after years in what the pro's call haitus (whatever!). Peace.

four

Good deal! I finished editing four more tracks last night. Truly, I think I could spend a year on each one just making tiny little adjustments here and there, changing my mind and then making more. It's outrageous! Anyway, it does feel really good to get shit done. I must admit that I'm not the most disciplined guy in the world.

I did also get the chance to spend about an hour playing bass. Sorry Les, but I've been getting pretty damn good at interchanging slap/pop's with strumming out chords. I love that combination of textures and it sounds funky! Plus, I'm an effects and distortion junky so it was a ton-o-fun. I wrote some rocking lines and it feels good to accomplish new shit. I'm looking forward to playing again tonight. I've developed quite the routine lately.

And fuck you Mr. Taxman! I got mine in the mail this morning, you bastards at the IRS. I'm getting returns so I don't know what I have to complain about really, but taxes and filing are a pain the ass anyway. Although, this year a sweetie at work did them for me so I lucked out. Ah, the benefits of working in Finance!

mic-checka'

Yeeeeeeaaaaahhhhh maaaaaaaaaaaaaaannn! I hooked up with two new Shure SM58's for kickass stereo recording. Couple that with two 30 foot cables and I'm in business! You want to add to that with two highly extendable tripod microphone stands - aaaaaaaaawwwwwww shit! Now all I need is a laptop! Eh, maybe a few paychecks away there...

I also picked up a few odds and ends like drum sticks, an extra pack of bass strings, a new instrument cable and a few 1/4" to RCA adapters to add some monitor speakers (that I already have from an old panasonic stereo).

They've got this Yahama electronic drum kit that had a sticker price of $850 but that thing was hot! One of the dudes working there was messing around and playing some funky beats. I had my son with me and he was dancing about the place. Yeah, he was quite cute to watch and the dudes there seemed to think the same. I told him we were going to daddy's toystore!

I love hooking up with new equipment, especially when times are rough. Still, I have a ton of work to do. Peace!

sleep

My four-year-old son was just giggling and laughing in his sleep and I don't think anything brings me more joy. His existence helps fuel my own. I'm one seriously lucky dude.

work

OK, I stuck my head out there far enough to procure some business. Fortunately and thus far, this is with friends. Of course, I'm always looking to expand into new arrangements and new realms. So if you see something you think I might be able to provide, please let me know.

Now I just have a ridiculous amount of work to do. And I love it. Thanks to everyone who has believed in me and has given me a chance to perform. I guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

Speaking of which, I had a good dialogue with my friend's band. There is no doubt that they are up-and-coming. They have the talent and the desire. Now they have to just consider the business side of things. And that's where I come in to help. We hammered out some agreements and arrangements today and I believe we're all quite pleased. This is also the same band that I'm networking with to land local gigs. So it's obvious that we both stand to gain a lot from partnering with each other. Very cool things are in the works here and I'm stoked.

In an earlier post titled "Reliance", I expressed my frustration with dealing with my friend's band. I think I overreacted. Gigs and such are subject to so many factors and this is something I've known since I was 16. I don't want to edit or delete that entry because those were my true feelings at the time. Nor do I think I shit-talked them necessarily or anything so... Anyway, I've come to terms with the nature of venue owners and all the various aspects of playing out. It can be a real pain in the ass because, in my mind, there's nothing too complicated to figure out to make shit happen. I still believe in networking and I always will, yet at the same time, I need to assess my abilities and see where I can just take a solo initiative. Ironically enough, that's what I've had to do with my music. Since no one local is available to start a band with me, I started my own solo act out of need. I have the need to write and perform music and I'll do whatever it takes to keep that going. I've got a solid start and I'm ready. I've been ready my whole life. The truth be known, I love all the guys in my friend's band and I know they're doing everything they can to support me. I'm very grateful.

Typically and as a rule, I don't put much personal stuff in this blog. However, everything I have written has had something to do with my music and corresponding business dealings. So as long as things in my life impact my ability or influence my music and all, it'll be here to some degree or another. I've gone back and read some of my earliest entries and I'm glad I've always been thorough about stuff. It helps me figure out who I am and where I'm going. What a journey it's been! And I'm just really getting started.

double-dip

Yeah, so here it is: two entries in one day. How obnoxious! And yeah, things are kind of quiet right now so I figured I'd take the time to elaborate on recent hap hap happenings.

So, I recently posted an entry about a local gig that I recorded and good things are coming as a result. I've already finished editing, uploading and designing a page to showcase Unoriginal's set from that night. I'm pleased and flattered to say that they really like the finished products. I can also say that it was an absolute pleasure to work with them. We've both expressed an interest in continuing a relationship which also includes playing live together when possible.

Well, now I have to take the time to finish the tracks for the other two bands I recorded that night. It's been tough to have the time & energy to do all this stuff, but I love doing it all. For real. LOVE. I live for and absolutely love music and anything related. And these last two bands are personal friends so I'm really engaged into the whole thing. Moving forward, I will be offering my mobile recording services to bands in the general public anywhere in eastern PA, central/north Jerz and all of NYC. Additionally, I'd like to start an independent record label to promote the heck out of great artists and allow them to control every single aspect of their representation and creativity, unlike the corporations. Although I am truly passionate about music, the industry blows the big one, especially as it relates to the corporations and their bullshit. They fuck over both the artists and the consumers so let me get on my soapbox and say, "100% Independent." Of course, I'm all about the fairness and stuff so my services will be very fairly priced (especially if I'm dealing with friends). This has all been an experiment since I'm new to both digital and live recording so it's nice to have the patience of my friends to get this off the ground...

Alright already, I'm out.

persistence

It appears that my pit-bull persistence has paid off a little. I
posted an ad in the online Dave Phillips Music & Sound musicians'
classifieds
and a guy named Mike responded a few days ago. As a
result, tomorrow night we're getting together to jam. He lives in
Sergeantsville and seems like a cool guitarist. I'll be playing bass,
my primary instrument of destruction. We'll have his friend playing
drums who's supposed to be quite good too. We're into a lot of the
same music and he has 20 years of experience under his belt already.
These dudes want to shake the earth sonically and I'm digging it. I
stand to learn a ton and I'm really looking forward to working with
them. Mike had asked that I learn four songs prior to meeting up so we all had something to jam together and I've already done so. These are the songs: Immigrant Song, The Number of the Beast, Smokin and Basketcase. He admits that none of these are his favorites but they should be a good way to get a feel for each other's capabilities and style. I'm sure it's gonna be a lot of fun!
