discountenance

Hey, I finally got a new track posted over the weekend. It's titled "Discountenance" and I have no idea why - it just seemed like a good word. This is one of the recordings I was able to salvage from my old jam tapes. As with the other track, Journey to Kill, the quality is lacking a bit, but it's tangible material and I believe it still conveys a feeling overall. Be sure to crank the volume because it seems low to me. I plan on editing the file a little more and then re-posting it eventually.

I remember having to do a million takes for both the bass and guitar for this one. For whatever reason, I wasn't very fluid the day I went to record it. On the other hand, I think the end product was worth the frustration. Recording is always a pain in the ass.

After going through many tapes, most of them contain single instrument jams, as I mentioned in a previous post. Therefore, I'm going to create a new section on my music page for these and call them "Ideas" because I really like some of the stuff. So I'll post some of those next and then I'll post the recent material I've wrote. The quality of the new tracks should be much better going forward and keep in mind that all of this is a learning experience for me.

obnoxious

I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but weblogs that contain any shades of pink and have numerous frames should be deleted from the server. It's just too obnoxious. After doing things on the web for years, even plain black text on a white background is hard to digest. Please don't make it any harder.

Way off topic from my blog, but it had to be said. Oh yeah, and ALl ThAT uPPeR and lOWwER CaSe FONtinG has to go. That is the stupidest shit I've ever seen.

wish

I really wish I had the time and energy to devote to my site. Things have been slow going lately. I'm telling ya, with a full-time job, a kid to raise, a relationship to conduct along with personal chores and crap, it's so hard to find the resources to do everything I want to.

Last night I programmed a sweet drum rhythm and wrote a bass line to lay on top of it. It was sounding tight, but I didn't bother to record it. Don't ask me why, probably just because of laziness. Also, if I'm not totally impressed with what I do, I have tendency to just write it off and scrap it. Most people tell me I'm a fool for scrapping shit, but whatever. I usually never have a hard time coming up with new ideas. The biggest problem I have is having multiple riffs melt into one song by having good transitions and fills. Transitions and fills kill me!

Well, I don't lose anything by posting ideas and shit. If I post something, then others can provide feedback, which never hurts. Now that I've thought about it, I guess I'll divide my "Sounds" section on the "music" page into "Song", "Rhythm" and "Ideas" sections, or something of that nature.

For Songs, I'll just post full-length finished songs. In the rhythm section, I'll post finished single rhythms or multiple measures of the same music. In the Ideas section, I'll just post random jams, which will sometimes consist of either all three instruments (drums, bass and guitar), or just a single one. Whenever I practice any instrument, I record it. During the recording/jam session, I sometimes come up with decent stuff so it would be appropriate to post that stuff as well. I don't know, I'm thinking that the more content I post the better, as long as I describe the nature of the tracks accurately. This is all really for me, so I guess anything will do - but of course, I welcome any feedback.

buckethead

Still photographs for Buckethead's "Spokes for the Wheel of Torment" video from the Cuckoo Clocks of Hell (2004 Disembodied Records) album, premiering at RESFEST 2004, are posted here. Jonathan Wells, the Festival & Editorial Director, was kind enough to provide them. Additional stills can be found here.

RESFEST is a huge digital film festival that will appear in cities throughout the world. This year is the 8th annual festival. For more details, please visit the RESFEST home page.

I will be attending the "Videos That Rock" segment on Sunday, September 12th, in NYC, where the Buckethead video will be shown.

reviewed

All I can say is: "Wow!" Within 24 hours of posting my first audio track, my web site received thirty new visits. I attribute the majority of the visits to two posts I made: one on Bucketheadland's Forum and the other on Saul's Buckethead.tk Forum. You have to register as a user on Saul's site in order to view the forum strings. All the other visits are a result of "word of mouth" communication. I wish I had posted something more dynamic and substantial since people are actually willing to check things out, but I am definitely going to post more material regularly. To me, this is all very exciting stuff.

In other good news, my site is now a search result ("infinitegravity") in both Google and Yahoo, and are ranked like second and third out of a bunch of results. That's cool because a lot of "accidental" and random visitors will get exposure to my URL and I'll be exposed to the new visitors. All very cool...

Well, tonight I'll be working on a new track. I don't know which one yet because I have tapes filled with material. So I'll just pick one, edit and upload.

up

Great News! My site's been updated. There's now the "bio" page that has some information about yours truly and I've posted my first audio track on the "music" page.

I'm finally starting to feel a real sense of accomplishment. All of this took much more work and time than I had anticipated, but now it's starting to pay off for me. There's so much more that I want to do, but at least now I have some tangible content to share. And that's what it's all about for me.

I found a tape over the weekend with all kinds of riffs that I have to transfer to the PC and then edit. Once they're all recorded and cleaned up, I'll upload them to my site. I can't wait!

bio

I finally finished writing out my bio for the site today and posted the new page. I'll probably go back and revise some of it down the road. I guess some of it is kind of revealing; however, I understand that bio's are like that sometimes. Also, my life experience seems very rich when I look back, yet it doesn't look as substantial as using written words to describe it. Maybe my past is more of an emotional thing as opposed to many, many actual events, so in my head, it kind of seems more.

I had a hard time trying to decide whether to show an image of me or not. I don't think it's necessarily important for people to know what I look like. And at the same time, people enjoy matching a face to a story. And really, knowing what I look like is no secret, so hey, why not post it?

Designing this site and providing the content takes much more time than I thought it would. But I'm not on a timeline so it doesn't matter. I'm just glad that I'm moving along with it. Unfortunately, what I've done so far isn't very special or anything, but I'm just getting done what I can, when I can. My main focus is music so I think I'll post some tracks soon. It's a real pain in the ass to transfer analog to digital because it's time consuming and my PC's old. Considering it's a holiday tomorrow and I don't have to work, I'll spend time on it then.
