shred

Well, my gig is coming up quickly (see previous post for the flyer/details). So I've been very busy getting ready. My material will consist of both old and new stuff. I'm really happy with the guitar and bass parts. The only real challenge I'm having right now is programming the perfect beats on my drum machine. The fucking thing is just so unnatural, but it does the job. I have most of the patterns already made and ready to go, but some of the guitar riffs I've wrote I never bothered doing the drums for so now I'm catching up with that. The fact that I'm a perfectionist about shit doesn't really help. Well wait, yes it does, but it's quite frustrating nonetheless. Anyway, things are coming along nicely and I'm really getting stoked. I've been told that my work sounds similar to Buckethead's Funnel Weaver. That association is not my own (or my goal necessarily, although he is probably my biggest influence), but I'll take it. I really wish I spent more time writing melodies (because that's usually the catchiest part of songs), but nothing says loving like good 'ole-fashioned shred. The riffs. I love the rhythm more than the melodies. Plus, I'm not putting words to any of this music (for now) so I have no real reason to put a ton of work into melodies. Honestly, I write my music for my own enjoyment, yet I really love sharing it too. So when I go ahead and write something, the material I create is what I like.
